Artist Trading Cards

What It's All About

Over at The WebComic List forums, I talked about doing an ATC trade amongst the other webcomic artists. Above is the list of people willing to participate.

The Rules Of TWCL ATC Trade-Off:

  • ATC stands for "Artist Trading Card." They are the same size as a standard baseball card so as to fit into the protective cases. For the curious, this size is 2.5" x 3.5", either vertical or horizontal.
  • Each ATC is a unique work of art, most often themed. Some artist produce several ATCs of the same piece, while others produce several that fit a common theme.
  • The only rule is that it be 2.5"x3.5" (6.35cm x 8.89cm for you metric system users) Everything else is left up to your imagination!

  • Interested in participating? The deadline to send me your mailing information is August 1st, 2008. I can be reached at twcl_atcs (at) twistthegecko (dot) com.
    • Also, a link to your webcomic and a banner would be helpful, so I can include you on this handy-dandy list
  • The deadline to mail off ATCs is November 15th, 2008. That way, even while being mailed internationally, the ATCs should arrive around the end of the year. Isn't that a wonderful present?
  • Expect to spend money! This is a trade that is happening between people from many different countries. Don't sign up if you don't want to invest time and money into this project.

Cost Saving Efforts

I am in the unique position of having both a US address and a German one. It may be cheaper for US residents to ship a group of cards to me and I will distribute them to non-US participants, and vice-versa. If you would like to do that, when you send the cards to me please specify which card goes to whom so that I may put several for the same designee in the same package.

My ATC Creation Process

  1. I use cheap posterboard for the backing, the type that can be found in the school supply aisle of nearly any store.
  2. My work is all done on the computer. When printing it out, I use an adhesive-backed paper.
  3. Before printing it out on the adhesive paper, I do a test print on normal paper, just to see how it looks.
  4. Once I'm satisfied by the test print, I print my cards out on the adhesive paper.
  5. I stick the paper to the posterboard, cut it out, and voila! Ready-made ATCs. ^_^
